EnergyRanked is an independent UK comparison service for home energy upgrades. We rank thousands of solar, heat pump, battery and insulation installers on the things that actually predict a good job — accreditation, trading history and real customer reviews — then match homeowners with a short shortlist of the best firms covering their postcode.
Why we exist
Getting quotes for solar or a heat pump in the UK is a mess. Prices for the same system can vary by thousands of pounds. Some firms are brilliant; some disappear before the warranty does. And the moment you put your details into the wrong website, your phone doesn’t stop ringing for a fortnight.
We built EnergyRanked to fix that: an independent ranking of the UK’s installers, and a matching service that introduces you to a maximum of three vetted firms — never a lead free-for-all.
How we rank installers
Every installer in our directory is scored on a consistent set of signals:
Accreditation — MCS certification is non-negotiable for solar and heat pump matches; it’s also what unlocks government support like the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
Track record — Companies House standing and years trading.
Reputation — verified review history and ratings across platforms.
Transparency — completeness of their public business information, warranties and guarantees.
Rankings can’t be bought. Installers can claim and complete their listing, but placement in our rankings and matches is earned on merit. Read more on our scoring methodology page.
How the matching service works
Answer a few questions about your home and project — it takes about 60 seconds. We shortlist up to three top-ranked installers who genuinely serve your postcode, and they come back to you with free written quotes, usually within 48 hours. You compare and decide in your own time. It’s free for homeowners, with no obligation at any point.
How we make money
Installers pay us a fee when we introduce a homeowner to them. That fee never changes the price you pay, and it never changes our rankings — firms cannot pay to rank higher, and we take no paid placements in ranking results. This is how we keep the service free for homeowners.
Editorial standards
Our guides in the Learn hub are researched against official sources — Ofgem, GOV.UK, MCS and the Energy Saving Trust — and reviewed for accuracy. Grant amounts and scheme rules change; where eligibility matters we always recommend confirming with your matched installer, who deals with the schemes daily.
For installers
If you’re an MCS-certified installer, you can claim your free listing, complete your profile to improve your ranking, and ask about receiving matched homeowner enquiries in your service area.
